Robi Axiata PLC, in partnership with Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB), has introduced Bangla QR-based digital payment facilities across all its Walk-In Centres (WICs) and nationwide retail network, marking a significant step towards making cashless transactions more accessible and convenient for customers.
The initiative was officially inaugurated on Wednesday morning at Robi’s Walk-In Centre located in Safura Tower, Banani, Dhaka. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, as the chief guest. Also present at the event were Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director and CEO of Mutual Trust Bank PLC and Shahed Alam, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer of Robi Axiata PLC.
The initiative will enable customers to make payments at Robi outlets by scanning a Bangla QR code through any supported application offered by participating banks, mobile financial service providers (MFS) or payment service providers (PSPs). Through a single merchant QR code, customers can conveniently complete transactions directly from their accounts without the need for cash.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, said, “Building a cashless and digitally connected economy requires greater collaboration among financial institutions, businesses and technology-driven service providers. Initiatives such as this demonstrate how interoperable payment solutions like Bangla QR can make digital transactions more accessible to people across the country. We encourage more businesses to embrace such solutions and contribute to the development of a more inclusive digital financial ecosystem.”
Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director and CEO of Mutual Trust Bank PLC, said, “The wider adoption of digital payments depends on making transactions simple, accessible and reliable for customers. Our partnership with Robi expands the Bangla QR acceptance network through its all (Robi & Cirkle) Walk-In Centres and nationwide retail channel. By combining MTB's payment capabilities with Robi's extensive customer reach, we are helping bring interoperable digital payments closer to everyday consumers and supporting Bangladesh's transition towards a cashless economy.”
Shahed Alam, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer of Robi Axiata PLC, said, “At Robi, we believe digital transformation should make everyday life simpler and more convenient for people. By introducing Bangla QR across our Walk-In Centres and nationwide retail network, we are giving customers greater flexibility to make payments through the supported applications they already use and trust. Our partnership with MTB brings connectivity and financial services together, turning digital access into practical everyday convenience. We believe that making digital payments accessible at familiar touchpoints will encourage more people to embrace cashless transactions.”
The initiative aligns with Bangladesh Bank's vision of ‘One Country, One QR’, which aims to establish a unified and interoperable digital payment ecosystem across the country. Beyond enhancing payment convenience for customers, the collaboration is expected to support the digitisation of Robi's retail and supply chain ecosystem by facilitating faster payment collection and more efficient fund transfers among customers, retailers, distributors and the company.
Through this collaboration, Robi and MTB reaffirm their commitment to advancing digital financial services and contributing to Bangladesh's growing digital economy.
