Nagad, UCB join hands to expand digital financial services

On behalf of Nagad, its Chief Financial Officer Afzal Ahmed, Head of Business Sales Md. Saidur Rahman Dipu and Head of Remittance Md. Ahsanul Hoque Bashar were present at the event among others. UCB was represented by Deputy Managing Director and COO Md Abdullah Al Mamoon, Deputy Managing Director (Wholesale Banking) Sufia Akter, Executive Vice President (FI & OBU) Yousuf Habib, and First Vice President (Remittance) Mohammad Aminul Islam, alongside other senior officials.

Nagad, the mobile financial service of the Bangladesh Postal Department, has entered a strategic partnership with United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) to broaden financial services and make digital transactions smoother, faster, and more convenient for customers.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony held at UCB’s corporate head office in the capital’s Gulshan area on Wednesday. Mohummed Shahin Sarwar Bhuiyan, chief commercial officer of Nagad, and Adnan Masud, additional managing director of UCB, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

Under the partnership, Nagad will facilitate swift and seamless delivery of inward remittances routed through UCB to beneficiaries’ mobile wallets across the country, particularly in rural and remote regions. Expatriates can send their hard-earned money home through international exchange houses, Money Transfer Operators (MTOs), or banks. Nagad customers can access these funds 24/7 from anywhere in the country.

Additionally, Nagad users will soon be able to pay UCB loan installments, monthly savings (DPS) schemes, and credit card EMIs directly through the platform. The platform will also simplify customer integration and onboarding, bringing more people into digital financial services and helping drive cashless transactions nationwide.

Speaking at the ceremony, Syed Himyanuddin Ahmed, senior associate administrator of Nagad, said, “Nagad has been working from the outset to bring digital financial services to the doorstep of the unbanked and marginalised populations. This agreement ensures daily digital banking conveniences for clients of both institutions. I believe this joint effort will further catalyse and strengthen the country’s cashless ecosystem.”

Adnan Masud, additional managing director of UCB, said, “This strategic alliance will play a pivotal role in delivering remittance proceeds to marginal communities efficiently while extending comprehensive banking solutions to them.”

At present, Nagad users enjoy Add Money services from UCB, alongside National Payment Switch Bangladesh (NPSB) interoperability and Bangla QR payment features across both mobile applications. Nagad remains focused on fostering digital transactions and boosting legal remittance channels, with cashless expansion via Bangla QR and NPSB remaining key priorities.
