Spanish Ambassador visits LafargeHolcim’s Chhatak Plant

Gabriel Sistiaga, Ambassador of Spain to Bangladesh recently visited LafargeHolcim Bangladesh’s flagship integrated building materials manufacturing facility in Chhatak.

The Ambassador was welcomed by Iqbal Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer of LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, along with other members of the leadership team. During the visit, His Excellency toured LHB’s state-of-the-art production lines and clinker manufacturing operations, gaining first-hand insight into the facility's high-efficiency industrial processes and discuss upcoming strategic projects aimed at supporting Bangladesh’s growing infrastructure needs.

Following the operational walkthrough, the Honorable Ambassador commended LHB’s commitment to driving innovation and advancing sustainable industrial practices. He highlighted the contributions of Geocycle, LHB’s specialized waste management wing, praising its pivotal role in fostering a circular economy by safely co-processing waste. His Excellency also expressed admiration for the company’s iconic 17-kilometer cross-border belt conveyor a unique engineering marvel connecting India and Bangladesh that ensures an uninterrupted, environmentally friendly supply of raw materials.

Beyond industrial performance, the Ambassador paid special attention to LHB’s extensive corporate social responsibility (CSR) footprint in the remote region of Chhatak. He commended the company’s dedicated efforts to uplift local communities through its healthcare clinic, primary school and specialized skill development programs for women, emphasizing the vital socio economic role LHB plays in regional empowerment.

Impressed by the organization's holistic vision, the Honorable Ambassador pledged his full support for LafargeHolcim Bangladesh’s ongoing and future sustainability initiatives.
